Nah, I think it will be fine. You just have to make sure you have the mic levels proper. Look for another singer that you can harmonize with for choruses, someone with a higher voice, that will give you guys a good mix.

I'm taking Music A-level and I compose in my spare time and I find the best method is to sit down at a piano or keyboard if you have one and try out a chord. Either just a simple C major chord or something more complex. Figure out some chord progressions that will make the basis for your piece. Then, if you have already created lyrics, sing the words in whatever rhythm you think sounds best. Make sure it flows and sounds singable. Then randomly hum out snippets of tune that go well with the set of chords you already made. Once you've composed your main melody, you can introduce other instruments, such as a guitar or whatever. Good luck <3

if you have a mac, crank up garage band, i think there's similar software for pc's.

or get a keyboard that does automatic chords/accompaniment, but these usually sound pretty cheezy.

learning guitar is rarely free and NEVER easy, but it is well worth the effort.

Ok, I had the same problem as you. I play guitar, intermediate, not crazy solos, but then look at Kurt Cobain, my skill level is probably close to his but I just have a different style.

Anyway, I had tons of trouble, and it helped to first find yourself a drummer for your new band. That will help I swear. It makes you feel like you can go somewhere and its real music. After you get a drummer, go to a Jam Session, where you guys just play with no music whatsoever and try playing real songs together than go at making your own riffs. I suggest going to blanksheetmusic.com to print some tabs.

When you hear a nice riff in your jamming, be sure to write down EVERYTHING. even if you decide that you're changing it, keep the old one, you might need it later.

Another thing, you do NOT need a bassist in your band, but at some point you may want one.

Although you asked on writing songs, I think the best way is to get a band together, and just naturally play some basic chords and notes.

Then you need to pick a name, which is the hardest part ever. What's funny is you think names sound gay but if you were to pick the name Pearl Jam if the real band didn't exist it'd sound gay, along with other real bands.

Then you need to go play at your school talent shows, the park, your garage, etc. More importantly, have fun and enjoy playing. If you don't like playing your music, you shouldn't.
